A Roof With a View

Space is precious, particularly so in London. Here, we transformed a rooftop into a luxury stylish extra room, complete with entertaining area and sunbathing deck. We planted a select evergreen scheme with white accents with to create interest. A place to sit and watch the world go by, a roof with a view.

All roof gardens are tricky with many construction issues to consider, such as the access, the weight load and drainage. We had to incorporate our work around the chimney stack and the sky light. Plus, everything had to be carried through the building and up 6 floors.

But the result was well worth it.

Georgian specialist designer, George Carter created this classic scheme. Firstly, wrought iron railings  were commissioned to provide a safe boundary. Then, sourced table and chairs with curved wrought iron legs and soft wooden teak surfaces. Bespoke fibreglass modern black planters were used to maximise the space and the whole area has a warm limestone tiled floor to reflect the light.

Standard topiary of Box and Bay were used, under planted with blousy Geraniums for an abundance of frothy white flowers. The railings have delicate white Jasmine trailing through them. A scented herb planter with chives, sage, rosemary, tarragon and mint were specifically requested by the client, a keen cook. An Amelanchier for its height was used to screen the sunbathing area.

The owners love the clean lines, minimal upkeep and the classic planting.

A perfect place to enjoy the view, and maybe a glass of Pimms.
